Cash for honurs: matter closed?

Blair bends rules re Party funding by accepting loans. He does not even tell Labour Party treasurer.

Strong rumours surface about peerages being sold. Scottish National Party alert police .16 month investigation takes place; then conclusions placed on desk of Crown Prosecution Service; they think about the matter for 3 months; then indicate no action will be taken.

Is it a surprise that we have lost all faith in politicians and the legal system?

Would the police have spent 16 months chasing a chimera?

If there were no convincing evidence from the police, would the CPS have taken 3 months anounce their conclusion?

The United Kingdom continues it walk towards moral and political night.

Two Cheers for Gordon?

I refer, of course, to Gordon Brown. The question mark indicates my doubt concerning whether he merits two cheers or only one?

The way in which he contrasts with the unspeakable Tony Blair gratifies me: Gordon is not the King of Spin, and his demeanour and English are agreeably different.

He has indicated a few small initiatives which are praiseworthy. However, is he really a Social Democrat? Recently he has announced that more City Academies will be built. He has indicated no change of mind concerning a replacement for Trident. He insists in flying the Union Jack, literally and metaphorically. He shows no desire to tax the really rich more heavily. Iraq still remains an incubus.

Yes, there has been a change of style; but it seems to me that the Blairite agenda is being tweaked, not altered.

However, I wait for his first meeting with Bush with a measure of anticipation!
