It is hard to believe that the young radical of Sheffield has become the foolish and reactionary David Blunkett. I suppose that what has happened to him is symptomatic of the decline and fall of the Labour Party. However, Blunkett's stupidity and penchant for right-wing women is nothing compared with the conduct of Tony Blair.

Blair could not see any valid reason for Blunkett's first resignation and soon welcomed him back into the Cabinet. When Blunkett broke the rules again, Blair could see no problem. Now after Blunkett's second resignation Blair once more cannot see why resignation was necessary. Will Blunkett once more become a Minister?

All this indicates that Blair's political judgement is a cause for great concern. Does he wish to destroy the Labour Party? Does he see himself as a second Margaret Thatcher?

The British Left cannot believe what is happening; everywhere there is profound despair.

Blair has indicated that he will go before the end of his third term. Will he join the Tory Party? Or is that Party now too left-wing for him?
